Planning applications are often accompanied by consultants’ reports to evaluate the ecological impact of the proposed development. We hope to bring advice on various aspects of this work, here.
One aspect of such reports is often a National Vegetation Classification analysis and we have noticed over the years that these are often inaccurate. Local knowledge can be very useful when assigning NVC communities, so here is the chapter from the recent Flora of Shropshire which lists all the communities so far described as occurring in the county.
If you are recording in an area you don’t know well, it is the easiest thing in the world to key out vegetation to the wrong community. If you think you have found an NVC community that is not listed here, please get in touch with us and give us the relevant information to review.
